The news around the Samsung Galaxy S25 is not slowing down these days. We recently reported that Samsung is installing the next generation of Gorilla Glass Armor for its new flagship. As Android Authority discovered, the new S25 features a sensor that was previously only found on Google Pixel devices (like the Google Pixel 4a and Pixel Watch).
Car accident detection can save lives
Momentary lapses in attention are a common cause of car accidents. If it’s just a collision, the damage caused is most often on your bank account. In other cases, the consequences can be fatal. In such cases, some Google Pixel devices may automatically trigger an emergency call.
Samsung users may well have access to this feature in the future, according to a leak seen by Android Authority. This claims that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature a car crash detection wake-up sensor, which will likely be similar to the feature found on Google Pixel devices. The “Car Crash Detect Wakeup Sensor”, as it is supposed to be called, would collect data on location, speed and background noise, thus building a profile of the current situation. A sudden drop in speed detected by the sensor may trigger an emergency call, depending on the settings.
Samsung has been working on a car crash detection sensor for some time
The South Korean company has been working on adopting such a sensor for some time. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5 are already equipped with such a sensor, but without the automatic emergency call option.
The company presumably wanted to test reliability first and simply left parts of the code in the system. Since the car crash detection sensor is purely virtual, a simple implementation via a software update is possible for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy S24 Ultra and the upcoming S25 generation.
