The day after being taken into custody after threatening one of her teachers, a 17-year-old high school student from Rézé was charged on Friday evening, September 13, with “public apology for an act of terrorism” and “death threats,” the Nantes prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday. The prosecutor’s office specified that the teenager had been placed in a home.

“During his police custody, the person concerned admitted to some of the facts but not the intention of physically attacking his teacher.”said the Nantes public prosecutor, Renaud Gaudeul, in a press release.

The latter added that the prosecution – which had requested that the high school student be placed in custody – had appealed the decision of the judge of liberties and detention to place the adolescent in custody “in a youth justice protection home”.

ISIS flag discovered during search

On Wednesday, a teacher at the Jean-Perrin high school in Rézé surprised the student miming a gunshot while he was handing in an assignment, a police source told Agence France-Presse.

The next morning, the high school student was arrested by the police. “at his home” in a commune bordering Rezé. During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, “an intelligence service” had alerted the Nantes public prosecutor’s office, revealing that the young man had proclaimed on a social network on Wednesday evening his desire to ““shooting” one of his teachers in the jugular the next day, while presenting himself as a follower of the Islamic State movement”according to Mr. Gaudeul.

The search carried out in his room allowed us to “found an Islamic State flag, an airsoft gun and two knives, one of which was obtained the same day”Mr. Gaudeul said. An initial search of his digital and telephone tools also revealed communications on TikTok and Telegram, in which he broadcast violent actions by the Islamic State.
