ChatGPT blackout: OpenAI confirms the outage

ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, is currently inaccessible for many users. Numerous reports on social media and direct checks confirm that the system loads but fails to respond to requestswhile some users see an “internal server error” message.

The outage appears to have started around 7.30pm Italian time, when reports on Down Detector began to increase. At 8 p.m., OpenAI posted an update on its status pagestating that ChatGPT, the API, and the Sora video generator are “currently experiencing high error rates.”

ChatGPT has gone completely offline a couple of times in the last few months.

And further update at 8.18pm attributed the problem to an “upstream supplier”without providing an estimate on recovery times. This is not the first incident of its kind: earlier this month, shortly after the release of Sora for ChatGPT subscribers, both the video generation tool and ChatGPT were offline for hours. In June, a widespread outage affected various AI tools, including ChatGPT.

This temporary disservice highlights thesignificant impact that AI services are starting to have on the workflow of many peopleconsidering the multitude of reports made in the last few hours. At the moment it is not known for sure when the service will be operational again but we advise you, if you are ChatGPT users, to keep an eye on the official OpenAI status page.
