The death toll from Cyclone Chido in Mayotte now stands at 39, according to a new report published by the prefect of the French archipelago located in the Indian Ocean.

(Keystone-ATS) A statement did not specify the total number of injuries recorded after the passage of the cyclone that devastated this French archipelago in the Indian Ocean more than 10 days ago, specifying only that “the mission to identify the victims of the cyclone continues its work” .
In addition to 39 deaths, there were 4,136 minor injuries and 124 serious injuries in Mayotte after Cyclone Chido. In total, 34 search operations for missing persons have been carried out in the last few days in around fifteen identified sectors, according to what was communicated by the ministry, which specifies that “drones are also involved in these operations”.
Installed in a stadium in Mamoudzou prefecture, a field hospital equipped with a maternity ward and two operating rooms opened its doors early this morning: it is designed to be able to receive 100 people a day for visits and guarantee 30 hospital admissions. Since December 14, in France's poorest department, humanitarian workers have been working to restore essential services such as water, electricity and communications networks. Domestic waste collection, an issue that has become central in the devastated archipelago, “is restarting”, according to the ministry.
The air bridge established between Mayotte, La Reunion and mainland France also allows the delivery of more than 100 tonnes of equipment per day to the Indian Ocean archipelago. From 15 to 24 December, 72 flights were carried out to transport reinforcements, equipment, food and water.
