AMEA Power, an Emirati company specializing in renewable energies, plans to launch several projects in Morocco in the areas of green hydrogen production and water production via desalination. These projects, which require an investment of at least $100 million, come at a time when Morocco is seeking to diversify its energy sources while promoting sustainable solutions.

AMEA Power, an Emirati company specializing in renewable energies, plans to launch several projects in Morocco, aimed at strengthening green energy production and responding to the Kingdom's water challenges. One of this company's flagship projects in Morocco concerns the production of drinking water by desalination.

Desalination plants in collaboration with the Spanish company Cox

In collaboration with the Spanish company Cox, specializing in energy and water solutions, AMEA Power plans to develop desalination plants in strategic areas affected by water stress, both in Morocco and in Africa and the Middle East. This project represents an investment of $100 million and aims to meet the growing water needs in regions where access to fresh water resources remains limited.

The project relies on a combination of renewable energy, including solar and wind, to power the desalination facilities. This approach not only guarantees sustainable drinking water production, but also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, thus aligning the project with Morocco's environmental objectives.

A green hydrogen project in the south of Morocco

In parallel with desalination, AMEA Power plans to develop a green hydrogen project in southern Morocco, with a production capacity of one gigawatt (1 GW). This project, also powered by renewable energies, is part of the Kingdom's ambition to become a major player in the production of green hydrogen, considered a key vector for the global energy transition. Morocco, with its abundant solar and wind energy resources, constitutes a strategic location for such projects. Indeed, the Kingdom has already put in place several initiatives to develop renewable energies and is seeking to strengthen its position in the production of green hydrogen, a growing sector internationally.

An office in Rabat to accelerate development

In order to better supervise its projects in Morocco, AMEA Power opened an office in Rabat last year. This office aims to facilitate discussions with the private sector and initiate local partnerships for the supply of clean energy. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMEA Power, Hussain Al Nowais, indicated in statements to Asharq Business that this new structure would make it possible to accelerate administrative procedures and coordinate projects more effectively with Moroccan authorities and local companies. .

The Rabat office will also make it possible to identify new sites for the implementation of renewable energy, desalination and green hydrogen projects, particularly in the towns of El Hajeb and Taroudant. These regions, with high potential in terms of sunshine and wind, represent privileged sites for investments in renewable energies.
