The passage of a clipper through Quebec on December 23 and 24 risks complicating holiday travel. Here's everything you need to know about the situation.

This precipitation a few days before Christmas is due to the passage of a clipper from Alberta. This type of system forms in the Canadian Prairies and moves from the west to the east of the country. It moves quickly and brings modest precipitation.

Progress over the next few days

This clipper will enter the province on Monday afternoon (December 23) from the west of the province. It will deposit snow everywhere in Quebec, but it is mainly the south which will receive the most. Between 10 and 15 cm are expected for several sectors of Outaouais, Laurentides and Lanaudière, as well as to the south in Montérégie and Estrie.

In Mauricie, and in Chaudière-Appalaches, we are talking about snow accumulations ranging between 5 and 10 cm. Central Quebec should receive small amounts of snow, a maximum of 5 cm.

MAY ACC

These new snowfalls should bring the missing snow that could allow residents of southern Quebec to have a white Christmas. Currently, these areas have received the least snow in recent weeks. The passage of the clipper would therefore balance this situation.

By Tuesday afternoon, December 24, the system will have already left the province and the good weather will return, just in time for Christmas!

Roads to avoid

Accumulations of snow on the roads risk complicating travel Monday evening (December 23), especially in the Outaouais, the Laurentians and the northern suburbs of Montreal. Highways like 50 and 15 will be worth monitoring.
