An agreement in principle was reached between the Federation of Early Childhood Workers of Quebec (FIPEQ-CSQ) and the Ministry of Families concerning a new collective agreement for its members working in early childhood centers (CPE).

If the 2,000 members concerned ratify it, this new collective agreement would last five years and end in 2028.

“It will promote better access to services for parents and their children, while allowing staff to be valued, offering greater support to educators and lightening their workload,” the union said in a press release. The agreement will also improve the attraction and retention of staff.”

An agreement in principle had already been reached concerning the members of this union working as managers of educational services (RSE) in a regulated and subsidized family environment.

“After an acceleration of negotiations this weekend, we have finally reached an agreement in principle,” said the president of the FIPEQ-CSQ, Anne-Marie Bellerose, in a press release.

“I would like to thank the members for their mobilization, which was essential in moving the government,” she added. I would also like to express my gratitude to the parents for their support.”

The two parties had been negotiating for more than six months.

The CPEs affiliated with the CSQ had delayed their opening hours in recent weeks in order to advance the talks.

The union will therefore suspend the six-day strike mandate that it had at its disposal.

The agreement in principle will be presented to its members at the beginning of January, so that they can vote on it.
