Even before the Montreal Canadiens' training camp began, excitement was at its height among CH fans, especially regarding two players: Patrik Laine and Lane Hutson.
These were the two players who attracted the most attention before hostilities began, and everyone was eager to see them in action.
Obviously, as everyone knows, Cédric Paré deprived us of Patrik Laine for the first two months of the season, which sent all the excitement and craze to Lane Hutson.
However, now that Laine is back in the game, and performing so well, we can finally appreciate both players at the same time.
What's even more awesome is that the two players have great chemistry together on the first wave of the power play.
Lane Hutson also had an assist on eight of Patrik Laine's nine power play goals.
Hutson therefore always finds a way to join Laine on the numerical advantage, even if the latter is closely monitored, and Laine has noticed that.
Indeed, Laine said he had never played with a power play quarterback as good as Hutson.
For CH number 92, Hutson is the best quarterback he has ever had in his career, even if he has played with several quarterbacks since the start of his career.
That's no small thing considering Laine played with Dustin Byfuglien and then Josh Morrissey in Winnipeg, and with Zach Werenski in Columbus.
Laine therefore finds Hutson better than all these defenders, which is really quite a compliment for the CH rookie.
And while we're talking about Hutson, it's important to note that the CH rookie is among the best defenders in the entire NHL in terms of assists and points.
He is in the top-5 best passers among defenders, and he is in the top-10 best scorers.
In short, Hutson's current production rate is nothing short of impressive, and it could very well become historic.
It took a long time, but Martin St-Louis ended up putting Lane Hutson on the first wave of the power play in place of Mike Matheson.
Was St-Louis waiting for the return of Patrik Laine to confirm this change?
Because seriously, I don't remember seeing the CH with such a good numerical advantage.
The talent on the five-man attack is impressive, and each time the opposing team receives a penalty, all CH fans sit up in their seats, both at the Bell Center and at home.
The power play is exciting, and it will be even more exciting next season with the arrival of Ivan Demidov.
