The break with Canal+ will not be effective until December 31, but Disney+ has already found another distributor to offer its content to the general public. This is the Orange operator whose subscribers will benefit from some privileges from January 2.
While we learned barely a month ago of the end of a four-year partnership between Disney+ and Canal+, a new distributor announced this Friday that it had signed an agreement with the big-eared firm. This is Orange which, from January 2, will offer “ access included for all TV customers to iconic Disney channels » announces the operator in a press release.

Access to films 4 months after their theatrical release
Thanks to this new distribution agreement, Orange customers will have access to the Disney Channel (which was to cease broadcasting in France following the break with Canal+) and National Geographic via their Orange TV decoder or their Orange TV application. Above all, they will be able to subscribe to the Disney+ platform with some advantages. On the one hand, subscribers to the Livebox Max offer will benefit from a 5 euro discount for life by subscribing to Disney+. On the other hand, subscribers of other plans will benefit from a first month offered to the service.

Finally, we thought that with the end of the partnership with Canal+, Disney+ would lose the privilege of broadcasting its films four months after their theatrical release. This broadcast window is ultimately saved thanks to Orange’s VOD service which will offer the latest Disney productions for purchase or rental.

Losing this broadcast window would have been a shame for the SVoD platform which intends to further strengthen its position in France, in particular thanks to an increase in its investments in French cinema. The current media timeline will end next February, time will tell if Disney+ can shorten its release window which is currently 17 months.
