After the announcement of the convictions, Me Nadia El Bouroumi, who stood out during the trial for her comments deemed inappropriate on social networks, published a new burst of videos on Instagram.

“I’m sad, really I’m sad”. Yesterday, reactions abounded after the announcement of the sentences of the 51 co-accused of the Mazan rapes. Public and political figures, both French and foreign, praised the courage of Gisèle Pelicot and thanked her for making the trial public. While the sentences handed down, weaker than the prosecution’s requisitions, should encourage most defense lawyers not to appeal, one of them, Nadia El Bouroumi, expressed her great disappointment.

On her Instagram account followed by nearly 54,000 people, the lawyer multiplied the stories to comment on the verdict. Already well known for having “covered” the trial like a reality show, Nadia El Bouroumi made a series of controversial comments. She also filed a complaint for harassment.

Yesterday morning, before the verdict was announced, the criminal lawyer published a screenshot of an exchange of messages where someone asked her how she was. To which she replied: “I am waiting for my sentence”. This ephemeral publication (stories only stay on the Instagram account for 24 hours) was accompanied by an emotional emoji with tears in their eyes. As soon as the court handed down the sentences, she rushed to make another story: “Impossible to comment! Just sadness.

“I’m really sad”

However, barely two hours later, Nadia El Bouroumi bombards her subscribers with videos filmed, as usual, in front of the camera. “I don’t understand the riot in front of the courthouse”she says in the introduction. “There were people shouting, women shouting, it’s everything we hate about the pack, the passions of the human being who, with no subtlety, rejoices”she blames before adding: “or not, moreover, because some consider that they have not taken enough”. She recounts a little later having been “exit from behind” to avoid “the riots”.

Quickly becoming more emotional, she recalls: “I plead for a gentleman who is 74 years old, poor guy”and she begins to cry, wiping her tears on her bare arm. The criminal lawyer adds, directly challenging her Internet users: “Imagine at 74 years old, he took 6 years, so that means concretely (that) even if we appeal, he will do another year. I don’t even know if he’s in his right mind.”she laments, before detailing the reaction of her other client, who “broke down and cried”. “I’m sad, really I’m sad”.

“You cannot accept such a decision”

Always defending her clients, she declares: “we can clearly see these people what they are like, their character, their personality. If you see my clients you say “this is not possible””. She continues and says she called their families and said: “But how can we imagine that these men are rapists?”. “I don’t understand, I assure you I don’t understand”.

Responding to Internet users who pointed out to him that with the sentence adjustments, his clients “aren’t going to do much” from prison, she retorts: “But that’s not the question! When you understand this file, when you understand the circumstances, you cannot accept such a decision, it is not possible”. Continuing her monologue, she adds: “So yes, it’s true, some told me, “but you remember, you said it was a foregone conclusion”, but I still have great hope for justice.”. However, she continues with a contradiction by declaring: “I spend my time saying that I am wary of it (justice)”.

Nadia El Bouroumi adds “This world disgusts me”. “In any case, courage for the families, for the Pelicot children, for Gisèle Pelicot, the accused, their families. Courage because as I told you in criminal court or in assize court, there is never a winner, these are human tragedies”she concludes, ensuring that she is “very affected”, “disappointed with human nature” and that she will lock herself up in the afternoon after pleading.
