The nominees for the Swiss Sportsman of the Year 2024 trophies are known. Outgoing winners of these Sports Awards, Lara Gut-Behrami and Marco Odermatt once again stand out as favorites.
By winning the general classification of the World Cup, the two skiers once again provide solid arguments to win, but they will face competition that is also very decorated.
Among the women, Lara Gut-Behrami will be challenged by the triathlete Julie Derron, Olympic vice-champion in Paris, the freestyler Mathilde Gremaud, who won almost everything last season in her discipline, the Olympic shooting champion Chiara Leone and the champions European Athletics Championships Mujinga Kambundji (200 m) and Angelica Moser (pole vault).
In the men’s category, Marco Odermatt, who has won the Swiss Sportsman of the Year trophy for the last three years, will be pitted against rider Steve Guerdat, silver medalist in Paris with his mare Dynamix, and the two athletes Simon Ehammer (length/ decathlon) and Dominic Lobalu (background) as well as a duo of swimmers, the Genevan Roman Mityukov and the Ticino Noè Ponti.
The ceremony will take place on January 5 in Zurich and will be broadcast live on RTS. Viewers will have the opportunity to vote during the evening. The ‘team’, ‘paralympic athlete’, ‘coach’ and ‘team MVP’ trophies, the names of which were previously announced, will also be awarded.
