It’s official, DAZN has obtained the rights to Belgian competitions for the next five seasons. The agreement guarantees the Pro League and its clubs an income of 84.2 million euros per season, which could increase further.
It’s official since this Thursday, DAZN has won the live broadcast rights to the Jupiler Pro League, the Lotto Super League, the Croky Cup and the Super Cup for the next five years. In addition, DAZN obtains the rights to the summaries, the published sequences as well as a Monday evening “magazine” show.
For their part, VRT and RTBF will continue to take charge of radio rights and will provide live coverage of matches for the next five seasons. The agreement guarantees the Pro League an annual income of at least €84.2 million, with additional income coming from additional revenue from DAZN.
Not counting the international and streaming rights, which will be allocated at the beginning of 2025, thus increasing the total amount to at least 93 million euros. However, this remains below the current contract, which generated an average of 100 million euros per year.
The Pro League could hardly have done better
The new contract reflects a downward trend in media deals, both domestically and internationally. In recent years, Telenet and Proximus have also been able to broadcast first division matches through sub-licensing, a possibility which remains open in the new cycle.
The collaboration with DAZN provides the Pro League with stability and growth opportunities. Thanks to new innovations and expanded distribution, Belgian football remains accessible to fans through various channels.
