Volodymyr Zelensky is once again, this Thursday, the guest of a summit of European heads of state and government in Brussels, the last of the year. Just as important is what he did the day before: he participated in an informal mini-summit organized at the residence of NATO boss Mark Rutte. A first. Symbolically, the Ukrainian president is taking a further step towards “NATO house” while his wish for rapid accession will not be fulfilled. But this mini-summit reflects above all the excitement and concern of Europeans less than a month before Donald Trump takes office in the White House.
Goal: to stick together and not be excluded from the negotiations that the American president intends to launch, while he prides himself on being capable of putting an end to the conflict “within 24 hours”. But also think about new security guarantees to offer to Ukraine, which urgently requires new anti-aircraft defense systems.
