After lifting the European Super Cup, the Spanish club won a second title this season, dominating the Mexicans of Pachuca (3-0).
Real Madrid, without straining its talent, won the Intercontinental Cup this Wednesday, winning in the final against the Mexican club Pachuca (3-0), in Doha. Kylian Mbappé, finally starting after being recently injured, scored the first goal for the Merengue (37th) in a stadium he knows well. Two years ago, during the 2022 World Cup final, he scored a hat-trick against Argentina (victorious on penalties) in this same venue at the Lusail Stadium.
A discreet Mbappé and a purring Real do the job
They already had their heads turned towards their meeting against Sevilla this weekend in the league. In a stadium without atmosphere, in an innocuous competition, the Merengue were content to provide the essentials without getting injured. In a constant false rhythm, they first scared each other with distant attempts from their opponents (7th, 8th, 10th) before finding the fault on their first real acceleration. After a nice number, Vinicius Jr offered the first goal to his scorer Mbappé (36th). In the second half, in this same false rhythm, with a new individual feat, the Spaniards made the break thanks to Rodrygo (53rd).
As a symbol, it was the man in this meeting who scored the final goal. Vinicius from the penalty spot for a clear 3-0. This is Carlo Ancelotti’s second Real Madrid title after winning the European Super Cup against Atalata Bergamo (2-0), winner of the last Europa League. This annual Intercontinental Cup extends the old Club World Cup, which will now be organized every four years, and whose first new format edition will take place next summer in the United States. For his part, Pachuca had to play two other matches last week, against Botafogo of Lyon owner John Textor (3-0 victory) and against Al Ahly (0-0, 6 tab 5).
