Vinicius Junior was named Men’s Football Player of the Year at the awards ceremony « The Best » organized by FIFA.
The Brazilian striker was at the ceremony to receive his award after traveling to Doha on Monday with Madrid for the Intercontinental Cup final against Pachuca.
The player expressed his pride by recalling his personal journey: “Honestly, I’m delighted. It’s a dream come true. I come from a very poor place in Brazil, so getting to this point was very unlikely, but not impossible. And I am here today for all the children who dream of great things, that they can go this far, and I will continue to fight so that many of us can do great things for football,” said the FIFA Best Men’s Player winner.
Vinicius junior also took sporting revenge by winning this award for best player a few weeks after seeing the Ballon d’Or pass under his nose to Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Vinicius was so disappointed at losing the Ballon d’Or in October that he abstained from attending the ceremony in Paris with his team in protest.
On the women’s side, Spanish international footballer Aita Bonmati was crowned best player of the year 2024.
The FIFA The Best awards ceremony took place in the absence of many winners.
