American pop star Madonna sowed controversy by sharing images generated by artificial intelligence on Sunday showing her in lingerie, cuddled up to Pope Francis, in a scenario that many deemed “inappropriate”.
“It feels good to really be seen,” wrote the American singer while sharing the two fake photos in her story on Sunday on Instagram, according to “The Independent”.
In the two images shared by the singer-songwriter, we can see her in a black bustier alongside the head of state of the Vatican, who seems to hold her firmly by the waist, his nose in her neck or against her cheek .
According to the singer, the images were generated by a humorous image artist on Instagram.
Except that several Internet users did not laugh at the image, instead describing it as “inappropriate”, “pathetic” or even “offensive” in the comments of the publication, noted the British media.
“Not artistic, no talent from @madonna and @rickdick_. The only way to get attention is to offend others and be disrespectful,” insisted one woman.
Some admirers of the singer instead came to her defense, indicating that it was just her sense of humor.
“We love his wicked sense of humor. She simply republished photos that had been circulating for days,” reacted an Internet user on X, according to “The Independent.”
Madonna is not at her first controversies with the Catholic Church: in 1989, her video clip for the song “Like a Prayer” was banned and denounced by the Vatican for having sexualized Jesus and depicting burning crosses, according to the British media.
“The video is blasphemy and an insult, because it shows immoral acts inside a church,” noted Catholic historian Roberto de Mattei.
Then, in May 2022, the pop star sent a tweet to the Pope in which she said she wanted to meet him to discuss her three “unjust” excommunications by the Catholic Church.
“I am a good Catholic. I swear! I mean, I don’t swear! A few decades have passed since my last confession. Would it be possible to meet up one day to talk? I have been excommunicated 3 times. This doesn’t seem fair. Sincerely, Madonna,” she wrote, according to a screenshot shared by “The Independent.”
