Unless the situation changes, Pape Thiaw will be officially confirmed as the new coach of the Senegal Lions, replacing Aliou Cissé. The imminent announcement was confirmed by Dr Nalla Socé Diop, technical advisor to the Minister of Sports, during the program Galaxy Sports broadcast on RTS1 and taken up by the daily newspaper Record.
However, a notable clarification was made concerning the remuneration of the future Lions coach. “ Pape Thiaw cannot come de facto and claim the 30 million [de francs CFA] that Aliou Cissé touched. He can’t start where his predecessor ended “, declared Dr. Diop, justifying this decision by Cissé’s exceptional achievements.

Aliou Cissé, in office since 2015, has indeed marked the history of Senegalese football by winning the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2022 and achieving major performances with the Lions. “ Aliou Cissé has done some time, he won a CAN and achieved great performances. So, Pape Thiaw has not yet reached the top. He must first prove himself and then claim more », Underlined the collaborator of the Minister of Sports, Khady Diène Gaye.
For now, the official confirmation of Pape Thiaw on the Lions bench remains awaited. However, expectations will be high for Aliou Cissé’s successor, who will have to prove that he is up to this colossal challenge.
