If Albert Spaggiari had had to reiterate his “heist of the century” of the Société Générale de Nice nowadays, he would not have done it any other way. On May 14, 2024, the Spanish bank Santander observes “unauthorized access” to one of its databases hosted by a subcontractor. In other words, hackers have infiltrated the systems of Spain's leading bank. “Certain information relating to customers of Santander Chile, Spain and Uruguay, as well as all current and certain former employees of the group Santander, were consulted”admits the group in a press release published the day after the incident. Santander specifying that “the database does not contain any transactional data or identifiers allowing transactions to be made on accounts.” In this incident report, the bank explains that it immediately cut off access to digital marauders.
