Technology transfer and innovation constitute key levers for improving the competitiveness of economies, said, Thursday in Rabat, the director of digital transformation at the Digital Development Agency (ADD), Khouloud Abejja.

Speaking at the opening of a workshop on technology transfer and innovation, co-organized by ADD, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA – ) and the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), Ms. Abejja explained that the transition to an economy based on knowledge, technology and innovation will make it possible to strengthen Morocco’s competitiveness internationally, to stimulate the creation of qualified jobs and ensure sustainable growth.

This transition will promote the emergence of new sectors with high added value, while encouraging the development of local skills and the attraction of foreign investments, she argued, recalling that Morocco has a promising research and development, marked by continued progress in scientific and technical production, reports MAP.

Ms. Abejja also underlined that challenges persist, particularly in collaboration between the academic world and the public and private sectors, highlighting the need to examine these issues and propose solutions adapted to the Moroccan context, while drawing inspiration successful national and international experiences in technology transfer and partnership between universities and different sectors.

In this context, she noted the importance of this workshop, designed to raise awareness of the concepts of technology transfer and innovation, promote best practices and encourage constructive exchanges aimed at bringing projects to fruition.

By encouraging the transformation of academic research into concrete solutions, these initiatives will help to stimulate innovation, strengthen the economic fabric and create highly qualified jobs, in line with national priorities in terms of development and competitiveness, a argues Ms. Abejja. For his part, Abdellah Ziadi, head of the Research and Innovation Support Department at the CNRST, highlighted the complexity of the technology transfer process, specifying that it requires personalized monitoring adapted to each project.

He noted that this workshop plays an essential role in providing practical insights and promoting constructive exchanges, essential to overcoming the challenges linked to technology transfer.
