“The future of computing”, at Apple, would not only involve its Vision Pro mixed reality headset, but also a future innovative product. According to Mark Gurman, renowned Bloomberg journalist, the Apple brand is working on a “giant foldable iPad-like device”, which would look like “two iPad Pros side by side”. This device would have a 20-inch screen when fully unfolded. This large surface area would offer users a workspace optimized for productivity and content creation. It should run under the iPadOS operating system for tablets, which would borrow elements of the macOS computer system for the occasion, without however being completely hybrid.

Mark Gurman specifies that Apple has already succeeded in significantly eliminating the main defect of the folding screens fitted to current competitive smartphones. The company has reportedly made the crease “almost invisible” in the center of the screen in its early prototypes. However, the American firm would continue to work to completely eliminate this brand, with the aim of producing a screen appearing to be “a single uninterrupted piece of glass”, reports the American media.

It remains to be seen what the price of such a high-end XXL device will be, the marketing of which could begin as early as 2028, in parallel with the project for a folding MacBook.

As for the folding iPhone, a project that Apple continues to explore, it would not be expected before 2026. According to The Information, the company would have developed two prototypes in 2018, before suspending their design in 2020. The “Wall Street Journal” reports that the folding screen of this iPhone would offer a larger display area than that of the latest iPhone 16 Pro Max (6.9 inches).
