CHwapi inaugurates a clinic for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases

The Picardy Wallonia Hospital Center (CHwapi) has opened a new specialized clinic dedicated to chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), the establishment announced in a press release. This multidisciplinary structure aims to optimize the care of patients suffering from these disabling pathologies, who require regular medical monitoring to limit the risk of complications.

IBD, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, results from immune dysregulation and alternates between periods of remission and acute attacks. These pathologies, whose manifestations vary considerably from one patient to another, require an individualized approach. “There are as many IBD as there are patients,” underlines Dr Léna Capirchio, gastroenterologist and referent of this new clinic.

The system put in place is based on a multidisciplinary team which brings together professionals specifically trained in IBD. “We discuss complex cases and situations requiring surgery together,” explains Dr. Capirchio. This follow-up is coordinated by a dedicated nurse, Isabelle Dupuis, who plays a key role in supporting patients, ensuring liaison between the different stakeholders and helping patients manage their treatment on a daily basis.

According to Isabelle Dupuis, close monitoring is crucial to detect flare-ups and prevent complications that could lead to irreversible after-effects. “Our goal is to help patients quickly identify symptoms and understand the importance of consistent treatment to achieve optimal remission,” she explains.

This initiative is part of an approach aimed at making the care pathway more fluid and improving the quality of life of patients with IBD, the press release concludes.
