Tangier: MPs warn of the worrying increase in the number of tuberculosis cases

The city of Tangier is currently experiencing a shortage of drugs against tuberculosis, while a report from the Ministry of Health warns of the spread of this disease in the city. This situation prompted parliamentarians to intervene, as reported Al Akhbar in its edition of Thursday, December 5.

A parliamentary group thus addressed an urgent question to the Minister of Health concerning this shortage of drugs necessary for the treatment of tuberculosis in several health centers in Tangier. This shortage, which has lasted for around ten days, is causing great concern among patients and their families, the daily says.

The parliamentary group emphasizes that the absence of these drugs in health centers constitutes a real threat for patients, who depend on regular intake for treatment. This situation also represents a danger for those around them, tuberculosis being a highly contagious disease.

This observation is confirmed by a report from the Ministry of Health. This reveals a significant spread of tuberculosis in Tangier, particularly serious forms such as pulmonary tuberculosis. The report specifies that 1,309 cases of serious pulmonary tuberculosis were identified out of a total of 2,380 cases of tuberculosis recorded in the Tangier-Asilah prefecture.

To deal with this crisis, nearly 38 health professionals were mobilized, including 20 doctors specializing in respiratory diseases and tuberculosis, a general practitioner, five multidisciplinary nurses, as well as radiology and laboratory technicians, and assistants. social.

In order to limit the spread of this dangerous disease, the supervisory ministry has started the rehabilitation of the Diagnostic Center for Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases in Bouaraquia. The center’s laboratory has been equipped with new devices allowing screening for the TYK2 gene, which promotes the contraction of the disease in carriers.

Furthermore, an action plan has been put in place for the initial and continuing training of health personnel working in this area. A specific program has also been designed to monitor patients, by developing partnerships with doctors and local associations.

However, according to the daily, the main cause of the spread of tuberculosis in Tangier lies in insufficient coordination between the different parties concerned. The mechanisms for clearly defining the responsibilities of key players in the fight against this disease remain inadequate.
