Fribourg: He flees a check and hits the police car

A simple routine check turned into a frantic chase on Thursday afternoon in the canton of Fribourg. It was around 2 p.m. when, in the village of Lentigny, between Matran and Romont, officers wanted to stop a motorist. But he did not stop and on the contrary accelerated, trying to lose the patrol.

In his escape, the man endangered many users, particularly pedestrians in the Chénens station area. Shortly after, on a side road, he pretended to stop. But when the officers wanted to arrest him, he suddenly reversed and hit the front of the police car. He repeated his maneuver twice before storming off.

Here again, through reckless overtaking at high speed, he endangered other road users. The patrol fell behind, without however losing sight of the vehicle, which stopped in front of a public establishment in Romont.

Its driver then rushed inside the building and struggled during his arrest, forcing the gendarmes to use force to control him.

The driving license of the driver, a 53-year-old man living in the region, was immediately seized. Various checks were underway Thursday evening to determine his physical condition.

The police, who indicate that there were no injuries to their knowledge, are calling on witnesses to this chase to come forward, in particular pedestrians and road users who were put in danger by the behavior of the fugitive. They can contact the Friborg cantonal police headquarters on 026 347 01 17.
