Speaking at the opening of the 16th edition of the MEDays International Forum, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Assoumani paid vibrant tribute to the Sovereign for the bilateral and multi-sector diplomacy advocated by Morocco and to salute the visionary leadership of HM the King in Africa.
The Comorian President amoreover, affirmed that his country calls for respect for the principle of State sovereignty, recalling that the Union of the Comoros has always supported the territorial integrity of Morocco and welcomes the recognition by world powers of the sovereignty of the Kingdom on its Sahara.
Assoumani, on the other hand, noted that the theme of this edition of MEDays offers the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the world as a whole and Africa in particular, particularly those linked to current geopolitics marked by growing tensions and a disrupted international order, highlighting the need to find urgent solutions to enable countries to cope with shocks and crises and maintain peace, security and stability in the world.
“The resilience that we need today is that which will allow our States to adapt and overcome these challenges, while preserving their sovereignty which is constantly called into question by the upheavals which are shaking Africa when faced with challenges. endogenous and exogenous,” he explained.
This forum, he continued, constitutes the opportunity to “initiate reflections allowing us to adopt common strategies in the service of our countries to face a changing geopolitical landscape”, adding that “we have the duty to shape a future where state sovereignty is safeguarded and global challenges are addressed in a collaborative, constructive and positive manner”.
“The sovereignty and resilience of our States and our institutions regularly undermined in many countries on the continent depend on our political will and our determination to resolve existing conflicts and prevent wars and conflicts,” said Assoumani, stressing that this requires preventive action through diplomacy and mediation, to address the root causes of the problems and thus prevent crises and conflicts from occurring.
Placed under the theme “Sovereignties and resilience: Towards a new global balance”, this Forum brings together more than 250 speakers, including heads of state and government, political decision-makers, Nobel Prize winners, leaders of large international companies and influential personalities in front of an audience of more than 6,000 participants from more than 100 countries, according to the MEDays Forum Foundation and the Amadeus Institute.
