The Berkane Sports Renaissance beat (2-0), this Wednesday, November 27 at the city’s municipal stadium, the Angolan club CD Lunda Sul as part of the first day of the group stage of the Confederation Cup.
In a match of a very average level and (curiously) in front of a small audience, the Oranges, the only representatives of Moroccan football in this competition, did the essential.
Double winners of the Pan-African tournament (2020 and 2022) and twice unfortunate finalists (2019 and 2024), the Berkanis have started their campaign well.
Largely dominant in the first half, coach Mouine Chaabani’s protégés opened the scoring in the 21st minute through their captain Issoufou Dayo. Their attempts to add to the score during this phase of the game were unsuccessful.
An imperial day
In the second half, the Oranges continued their supremacy by leading several counterattacks, having come up against opponents who were well grouped in defense and often using fouls to stop them.
But it was only a postponement since, on a set ball, central defender Issoufou Dayo came back to double the lead. Several actions by the Berkanis followed which almost hit the mark.
The match ultimately ended in a very valuable victory for the only Moroccan representatives in the CAF Cup.
Thanks to this result, RS Berkane occupies the head of its group B, with 3 points, tied with Stade Malien who beat Stellenbosch FC of South Africa (2-0).
