France 2 invites its viewers to discover the new series “That’s Paris!”, in which Alex Lutz plays the main role. But what is the value of this new fiction plunging us behind the scenes of a legendary cabaret on the verge of closure?
What is it about?
“Nowadays, in the heart of the capital. Gaspard Berthille is the manager of Tout-Paris, an emblematic cabaret which perpetuates the legend of 'crazy Parisian nights', alongside institutions such as Paradis Latin. Unlike his father, Dary, former director and legendary leader of the magazine, Gaspard failed to maintain the success of the establishment. Is it because of an outdated show, faulty management or more innovative competition? In any case, this is the fateful moment for Gaspard to sell. Unless he takes the crazy gamble of creating a new revue and restoring the cabaret to its former glory…“
That’s Paris! is a series broadcast from Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 9:05 p.m. on France 2. It is also already available in full on the france.tv site.
Who is it with?
After Becoming Karl Lagerfeld on Disney+, we find Alex Lutz in the main role of this series. He plays Charlotte de Turckheim, who plays his mother, and Anne Marivin, who plays his wife. But that's not all…
The latter share the poster for That's Paris with Nicolas Maury, Aurore Clément, Florence Thomassin, Delphine Baril, Anna Nowak.
Line Renaud, Christian Louboutin, Bernard Le Coq and Monica Bellucci appear here as exceptional guests. That’s Paris was created and written by Edgard F. Grima, Jérôme Bruno and Marc Fitoussi. The latter is also responsible for producing the six episodes that make up the first season. All three previously collaborated on Ten Percent.
Is it worth a look?
Go behind the scenes of the legendary (and fictional) cabaret Au Tout-Paris… which is about to lower the curtain for good! However, thanks to the tenacity of its owner in the face of adversity (played by Alex Lutz), the establishment may have a chance of surviving… But it is far from over!
This is Paris lives up to its name very well because the fiction shows the plurality of our capital through its gallery of characters and this French performing art. The members of this joyful troupe will learn gradually through the personal and professional adventures they encounter that we are always stronger together.
Alex Lutz aptly plays the urgency that inhabits Gaspard, our hero ready to sacrifice everything to save his father's legacy, while imposing his paw. Never short of lines that hit the mark, the protagonist is nevertheless a sensitive man who wants to continue dreaming with the public and the artists…
To do this, he is supported by a string of tasty supporting roles. Charlotte de Turckheim and Anne Marivin are great, Nicolas Maury as hilarious as he is touching. Special guest of the series, Monica Belucci shows a new side of herself, just like Line Renaud who has fun with her image of the eternal leader of the magazine.
The tour de force of That's Paris is to succeed in modernizing the cabaret, a seemingly cheesy environment that everyone knows, without really knowing it either. The show scenes were directed by choreographer Kamel Ouali and he offers flamboyant scenes on screen, with dancers in feathered or sequined costumes, or even both!
Although Gaspard continues to struggle (like Raphaël (Pierre Niney) in Fiasco (Netflix) in a certain way), feelings of pleasure and lightness emanate from this quite enjoyable project. The charm finally works and we quickly feel the desire to discover whether or not the fine team will manage to stay in the spotlight.
Despite problems with pacing and a significant lack of bite (which were not to be deplored in Ten percent, for example), That's Paris is a charming and amusing series, served by a group of actors whose joy is communicative, especially in our time. France 2 viewers will appreciate it, enjoy the show!
