Fact of the day
The Paris Stock Exchange fell a little more sharply than certain European markets, due to the political crisis and the threat of a motion of censure agitated by the opposition to the government. If adopted, it would bring down the government as well as the draft budget for the year 2025.
This crisis also has effects on the sovereign debt market. The gap between French and German borrowing rates continues to widen. In this context, banking stocks fell. Among the biggest declines, Axa closed down 4.31% to 32.21 euros, Société Générale down 3.48% to 24.55 euros.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the markets took note of the PCE inflation index in October, an index particularly scrutinized by the Fed. Over one year, inflation rebounded to 2.3% compared to September (2.1%), in line with analysts' expectations.
