The former president had mocked school teachers who, according to him, only worked “24 hours a week” and “six months a year”.
The scene takes place in a bookstore in Marseille where Nicolas Sarkozy came to sign his latest book last Friday, November 22. Where usually the exchanges are very cordial and often admiring, the conversation took a completely different turn with this professor.
“Aren't you ashamed of throwing the teaching world out into the open? Why are you lying? You know that we don't work 24 hours a week. We work 43 hours.” reacted Sébastien Fournier, a teacher from the northern districts of Marseille who did not appreciate the exit of the former state minister who had affirmed that school teachers were working “24 hours a week six months a year between holidays and weekends”. The FSU-SNUipp union released the video of the exchange.
Rather calm at first, Nicolas Sarkozy, who offered the teacher to give him his address, quickly became annoyed by the words of the teacher who did not back down when detailing the ministry's figures. “You retired at 57, I will retire at 67. We work every morning, we are at work at 7:30 a.m.”he continues.
The former president did not wish to respond and contented himself with a “hey boy, goodbye” to end the exchange.
