The Civil Forum announced report no. 4 of November 23, 2024 from the Long-Term Observation (OLT), relating to the post-ballot context and the electoral climate: “proclamation of the provisional results of the early legislative elections of November 17, 2024” .
« The electoral processes which punctuate political processes are of capital importance in any democratic project because they determine the quality of governance and especially that of the legitimacy which results from it. The Senegalese democratic project, begun in the early 1980s, has demonstrated a certain resilience despite the innumerable challenges that continually assail it.“, underlines the report received in Senego.
« This fact is intrinsically linked to the nature of any dynamic process. If Senegal has managed to clarify the contours of an electoral model which are becoming clearer as it is put to the test, difficulties persist both from a structural point of view and from the point of view of the interplay of the actors. The various points of vulnerability (lack of trust between actors, disputes over certain stages of the process, violence, disinformation, low level of citizenship, legal vacuum, etc.) often mentioned in the implementation of electoral processes in Senegal have finally convinced on the importance of developing citizen dynamics contributing, despite the efforts made by the essential stakeholders to these electoral processes (political parties, electoral administration, CENA)“, adds the OLT.
To this end, the document notes that “ during this stage of the provisional publication of the results, no act of violence was reported. The electoral climate is also very calm. Furthermore, it was not reported by the violence monitors/OLT: No challenge to the provisional results. This is also corroborated by the media outings of the coalition representatives following the publication of the results announcing that they will not lodge an appeal before the Constitutional Council; No inflammatory speeches or remarks were noted by long-term observers and monitors of violence; No acts of violence either throughout the national territory« .
