The police officer responsible for the fatal shooting which caused the death of Nzoy in 2021 at Morges station acted in self-defense. For the Vaud Public Prosecutor’s Office, the omission to render assistance cannot be held against this agent, nor against his three colleagues.
At the end of an investigation begun on the day of the death of the 37-year-old Zurich resident, known as Nzoy, on August 30, 2021 around 6 p.m. on a platform at Morges station, the Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an order for classification and non-entry into the matter, he announced Tuesday in a press release.
A serious attack
The Prosecutor’s Office considered, given the circumstances, that the police officer found himself confronted with a serious attack. He “did neither have the time nor other reasonably available means to ward off this knife attack other than by firing his firearm,” he emphasizes.
This decision is based on the various elements brought to light by the investigative acts ordered by the prosecutor or requested by the parties (hearings, videos, autopsy, technical reports, in particular), as well as on federal case law.
