Italy: Elevator starts up again by itself, she crashes 15 meters below

She loved music, went out clubbing often, was saving up to get her driving license and spent a lot of time on Instagram, where she had almost 6,000 followers. On the night of Sunday to Monday, Clelia Ditano was brutally taken from her life at the age of 25, in circumstances as absurd as they were tragic. An only child, the Italian lived with her parents in an apartment in Fasano, in the province of Brindisi.

According to the reconstruction carried out by the police and firefighters, it was around midnight when Clelia returned home, taking the elevator to the fourth floor. The young woman intended to leave immediately, so she left the elevator door ajar. She entered the apartment and left her bag there, before leaving the apartment again with only her mobile phone.

Certain that she would find the elevator as she had left it, the Italian woman did not suspect anything. She opened the door wide, took a step forward and fell into the void: in the meantime, the cabin had gone down three floors. The unfortunate woman crashed 15 meters below, on the roof of the elevator. Worried about not seeing Clelia return, her father tried to call her around 6am. He then heard his daughter’s phone ringing in the elevator shaft. “I immediately understood that something had happened and I raised the alarm,” Giuseppe confided to the “Corriere del Mezzogiorno”.

The public prosecutor’s office seized the elevator and opened an investigation to try to identify possible responsibilities. According to the owners of the company responsible for maintaining the installation, checks were carried out a few months ago and no anomalies were found. The tragic death of Clelia, who worked in a B&B in the area, has given rise to a flood of tributes on social networks. “She had so many dreams, surely also that of getting married. Now they are all shattered,” sighs her father.

Sadly ironically, in her last post on Instagram, the young woman shared her optimism: “To what awaits us,” she wrote, punctuating her sentence with a sun-shaped emoticon.
