Five Palestinians were killed by an Israeli airstrike on Monday during a rally in Gaza City, as the Israeli military urged residents of eastern Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip to evacuate immediately.

GAZA, July 1 (Xinhua) — Five Palestinians were killed by an Israeli airstrike on Monday during a rally in Gaza City, while the Israeli army urged residents of eastern Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip to evacuate immediately.

Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes targeted the gathering in al-Jala Street. Videos posted on Facebook showed young people on the ground after the airstrike.

According to medical sources, the attack left five people dead and ten injured, all of whom were taken to hospital.

The incident came after Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee called on residents and displaced people east of Khan Younis to immediately evacuate to the humanitarian zone.

Also on Monday, Gaza health authorities said in a press release that the Israeli army had killed 23 Palestinians and wounded 91 others in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 37,900 and the number of wounded to 87,060 in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict last October.

Israel launched a major offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a Hamas attack on Israel’s southern border on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage.
