State Councilor Pierre Maudet appointed Dr Alessandro Cassini as cantonal doctor. The Dr Cassini will take office on 1is next October, announces a press release.

Currently deputy cantonal doctor of the canton of Vaud and senior doctor in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Vaud University Hospital Center (CHUV), Alessandro Cassini benefits from extensive experience in the field of prevention, management and control strategies. communicable diseases, as well as in the implementation of public policies promoting good health for all, highlights the Department of Health and Mobility (DSM).

He has worked for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, in the field of health risk controls and strategies, in relation to the improvement of health systems. He has also worked for the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in Stockholm as an expert in disease impact assessment, forecasting and prevention interventions.

Within Doctors Without Borders, Dr.r Cassini has carried out several missions abroad as a doctor and epidemiologist, notably in Mozambique and Mali.

A medical doctor, he holds a master’s degree in health policy, planning and financing, and a research doctorate (PhD) in epidemiology.

Also head of department

Alessandro Cassini will assume the responsibilities of the cantonal doctor as defined in cantonal and federal legislation (Federal Epidemics Act (LEp) and Health Act (LS), in particular). He will also be head of department, responsible for practice permits, health promotion and disease prevention, emergency health aid and checks on health institutions.

The cantonal doctor’s service promotes conditions favorable to health and ensures the coordination of prevention and management strategies for communicable diseases, while ensuring compliance with legal provisions and good practices by health professionals and institutions.
