On several occasions, the victim was carried and grabbed: her companion had decided that she would spend the night outside. After managing to get his wife outside, in her pajamas and barefoot, he poured a basin of cold water over her head. When he finally opened the door again, she was beaten, resulting in a broken nose and an orbital hematoma. The defendant declared on October 28: “I had drunk two bottles of wine, in addition to antidepressants, sleeping drops and blood pressure medication. I haven’t been well since my father died, I wanted to go to sleep and forget everything.“
The events, which took place in the presence of the children, took place in a context marked by alcohol and jealousy. While the defendant is dependent on his wife, he asked her to stop working because he was afraid of seeing her leave with another man. “I didn’t want to risk my marriage for a job“, confided the young woman, in a better mood. If she was present and became a civil party, it was not to claim money, but to defend her companion. Addressing the court, she declared: “You have to give him a chance, he is not a bad person, if you give him conditions, he will respect them.“
At the end of October, Deputy Mascart recalled that the mother had declared, just after the events and before retracting her statements, that she was regularly insulted, threatened and that she also received blows on occasion. “On the evening of the incident, the woman’s nose and arch were bleeding, she could no longer open one of her eyes. She was taken in by a neighbor. Worried about his mother, one of the children went out into the street in the middle of the night.“
Addressing the victim, the substitute specified: “There is a difference between what he is and what he does. Your children are afraid. You find yourself in the classic pattern of domestic violence. You say that you love him, that you care about him, but if things don’t change, as a mother, you must protect the children you have given birth to.“
