Stock market: historic record or return to balance?

This is a trajectory that would make several stock markets green with envy. At the last bell of the session on November 22, 2024, the flagship index of the Casablanca Stock Exchange continued its “bull run” that began at the start of the year (12,141 points), registering a nice surge of 23.5% and crossing the rise, a few days earlier, the symbolic bar of 15,000 points. A performance that establishes the MASI among the best performing benchmarks in the region, surpassing the Egyptian EGX 30 index, which suffered a significant decline of 22.83%, and also ahead of the JSE All Share of South Africa, which displays, for its part, an increase of “only” 15.74%.

Tourism: crack in the omnipotence of Booking.com

Booking, the Dutch online booking giant, by far number one on the Moroccan market, was forced by the courts to remove the clause which obliged European hoteliers not to offer rates from other platforms, which were lower than the one displayed on Booking.com. In Morocco, hoteliers are stuck by this restriction, and cannot free themselves from it due to their dependence on the Dutch giant. But the National Federation of the Hospitality Industry says it wants to put the subject on the table by the end of the year.

Aldactone, Sintrom, Statins… are becoming rare in pharmacies, the concern of patients is at its peak

Vital medications have been difficult to find in pharmacies in recent weeks. Among the products concerned, Aldactone, Sintrom, Statins and many other remedies intended to treat serious conditions such as heart disease or cancer. Faced with this situation, the distress of patients and their loved ones is at its height. Helpless and resigned, all they can do is hope that this supply problem will be resolved as quickly as possible by the health authorities. But beyond the human dimension of this problem, it is the question of rigorous stock management and that of health sovereignty which are brought back to the table.

Social networks, a new tool for educating children’s rights

A recent survey conducted by the National Observatory for Children’s Rights (ONDE) in partnership with UNICEF reveals a surprising reality: social networks and television now surpass schools as the main source of awareness among Moroccan children about their rights. For the latter, television comes first (25.9%), followed by social networks (21.9%), relegating school to third place with only 16.35%. The survey, carried out among 7,500 young people, including 1,449 children aged 9 to 18, paints a mixed picture of knowledge of children’s rights in Morocco. Only 16.9% of the children surveyed claim to know them perfectly, while 50.15% have a partial understanding of them and 32.9% are completely unaware of them.

The government supplies municipal finances

The RNI group in the Chamber of Councilors welcomed the municipalities’ obtaining additional financial resources to strengthen territorial development. The president of the group Mohamed El Bakkouri described this increase as a “courageous” government measure, which aims to increase the share of municipalities in the value added tax from 30 to 32%. This decision responds to the demands of elected officials, who have been calling for an increase in the share of this tax for years, to help achieve territorial development objectives and thus meet the requirements of effective management. Elected officials from the head of government’s party hope that the financial resources of municipalities will increase in the future and emphasize the need to reform the code relating to local authority taxation and accelerate its implementation.
