The Festival de la Cité will explore new artistic territories from Tuesday to Sunday in Lausanne. The 52nd edition of the free event offers the public the chance to juggle between 136 projects in 32 locations in the Vaud capital.

The Festival de la Cité will be held in its historic stronghold, on the banks of the lake as well as in the park and orchards of the Hermitage, not forgetting the after-parties at the Tridel factory. In total, the major free cultural event promises nearly 180 performances for a budget of 2.4 million francs.

The program takes the pulse of contemporary creation with 61 performances of performing arts, 66 concerts and 35 DJ sets. Much emphasis is placed on theater, dance, performances, music and the circus – which always enjoys an important place – without forgetting acrobatics, stunts and cinema.

Among the headliners are Alice Ripoll, Laurène Marx, Vincent Fontannaz, Ilyas Mettioui, Kabeaushé, MC Carol, Billie Bird, Irreversible Entanglements and Raül Refree. On a musical level, it is a real world tour that will take the audience on a journey, from Brazil to Morocco via Sardinia.

Swiss and local artists will also be there. Notable among others is the yodeling, blues and organ concert at Lausanne Cathedral by Erika Stucky and Johannes Keller.

Thematic routes

The five thematic courses are divided this year into “Catharsis” (liberation of passions), “Transmission” (of memories and stories), “Collective Forces” (committed collective projects), “Curious Families” (shows for families and young audiences) and “New Sensations” (unclassifiable projects and inventive talents).

Regarding mobility, traffic and parking will be difficult and regulated during the evenings of shows. It is forbidden to park on the Place du Château until July 12, as well as in the surrounding area. The Bessières bridge and Pierre-Viret street will be closed to traffic until July 8.

Last year, the event attracted more than 100,000 visitors.
