RN in the lead, hot spots… How did the South-West vote?

1 In Gironde, towards a great return of the left?

As elsewhere, yesterday, the Popular Front benefited from the massive increase in participation (20 points more than in 2022): in the shadow of the success of the far right, the PS-Verts-LFI coalition could double its number of elected officials compared to 2022 and keep 2e constituency (Bordeaux-Centre, where the Ecologist Nicolas Thierry is well ahead), the 3e (Bordeaux-Bègles-Talence-Villenave, where Loïc Prud’Homme fails to pass from the 1is tower), and the 4e (Right bank of Bordeaux, with Alain David at 42%, well ahead of the RN), and comes out ahead in Mérignac (6e) and Pessac (7e). In the Entre-deux-Mers (12e), the Insoumise Mathilde Feld, although 10 points behind the RN, could benefit from the withdrawal of the outgoing deputy in the name of the “republican front”. The left has not said its last word in the Médoc either, where Grégoire de Fournas, the outgoing RN, is however in the lead. However, in an unprecedented development, the RN takes the lead in half of the constituencies. And her boss in Gironde was elected in the first round in her constituency of Haute Gironde (11e). On the presidential majority side, only Thomas Cazenave, the Minister of Public Accounts, finished in the lead in his 1re constituency (Bordeaux-North).

2 In Charente-Maritime, the RN ahead almost everywhere

The National Rally did not provide details. He won by a large margin in four of the five constituencies. It’s in 4e, shared between the Pays Royannais and Haute-Saintonge, that Jordan Bardella’s party achieved its best score: 45.21% for Pascal Markowsky, who is ahead of the outgoing Macronist deputy Raphaël Gérard (27.95%). Preventing the RN from electing a deputy in this territory seems illusory, especially since the left-wing candidate is eliminated. The Royan constituency was also won by the RN Aymerick Mongelous (43.83%), ahead of the outgoing deputy supported by the presidential majority Christophe Plassard (32.75%). The triangular is more than probable there, just like on the Saintonge where Fabrice Barruseau (NFP, 28.06%) and Jean-Philippe Ardouin (Together, 27.90%) run far behind the RN Stéphane Morin (40.85%) . In Rochefortais, the RN of Karen Bertholom (34.41%) is on pole, but the Ecologist wearing NFP jacket, Benoît Biteau (26.94%), is not that far away. The outgoing Macronist MP Anne-Laure Babault (25.33%) is holding on. Only the La Rochelle constituency resisted the RN. Olivier Falorni, the outgoing DVG supported by Ensemble, won largely (45.64%) ahead of the Ecologist NFP Jean-Marc Soubeste (29.64%). Emma Chauveau’s RN (22.65%) is qualified.

3 In Dordogne, three possible triangulars

With a turnout of over 70%, the Dordogne region was strongly mobilised for this first round of legislative elections. However, the trends outlined during the European elections, with in particular a strong push by the National Rally, were not contradicted. The RN candidates came out on top in all four constituencies. It was in the 2ethat of Bergeracois, that the score is the highest at more than 42% for the outgoing deputy Serge Muller. Followed by the Périgord vert at 40%, then the first, Périgueux-Vallée de l’Isle at 38.24%, and finally the 4ethat of the Périgord noir at 36%. As in the European elections, the left comes in second place everywhere. This is particularly the case for the two outgoing deputies, the LFI Pascale Martin in the 1time and Sébastien Peytavie (Génération.s) on channel 4e. The candidates of the presidential majority, including the outgoing Modem, Jean-Pierre Cubertafon in the 3eare only third. Note that, with the exception of the Périgord Noir, there may be triangular races in the second round.

4 In Lot-et-Garonne, the RN can still achieve the grand slam

The RN vice-president of the National Assembly, Hélène Laporte (49.31%), fell just over 350 votes short of being elected in the first round. The outgoing deputy of the 2e constituency of Lot-et-Garonne (Marmande-Tonneins) will not be able to avoid a second round that is looming against the candidate of the New Popular Front, the socialist Christophe Courrègelongue (26.89%). Elsewhere in Lot-et-Garonne, the RN came out on top in the poll but its candidates do not have such a comfortable lead. Annick Cousin (41.08%), the outgoing deputy of Villeneuvois, saw the threat of Jérôme Cahuzac, if it was one, dismissed. The former minister is in fourth position (14.56%) and is already seeing his trial conducted by the candidate of the New Popular Front Xavier Czapla (18.36%), who accuses him of having divided the left-wing forces. The LR mayor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot Guillaume Lepers (24.99%) is a bulwark here. Even more unclear is the situation in Agen-Nérac: Sébastien Delbosq of the RN (43.11%) will replay the duel against Michel Lauzzana, the outgoing Renaissance MP who limited the damage (28.41%), but there again we will have to hope for a massive transfer of votes to hope to prevent the RN from making a grand slam in Lot-et-Garonne.

5 In Landes, the RN in the lead in two constituencies

In the Landes, the National Rally obtained 35.01%, the New Popular Front 30.62% and the presidential majority 25.20%. It is therefore a new thunderbolt that hits this Sunday this land known for its left wing. In detail, in the first constituency of the Landes, Véronique Fossey (RN) comes out on top with 37.23%. The outgoing MP, Geneviève Darrieussecq is on the second step of the podium with 28.25%. She beats Marie-Laure Lafargue (NFP) who obtained 27.08%. Less than 1,000 votes separate them. In the 2e constituency, the RN, here again, comes in first: Ludovic Biesbrouck obtains 32.60% ahead of the outgoing deputy, Lionel Causse, who resists the best with 30.05%. Jean-Marc Lespade, former mayor of Tarnos and NFP candidate, finished on the third step of the podium with 28.43%. Marie-Laure Lafargue and he withdraw and call to beat the RN. Finally, in the third constituency, the outgoing deputy Boris Vallaud (NFP) obtains 37.12% of the votes, the RN candidate Sylvie Franceschini is less than two points with 35.60% and Tom Gillet Duffrechou (presidential majority) falls to 16 %.

6 Pyrénées-Atlantiques: the left in the lead

The RN continues its progress in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. For the first time, he came first in two constituencies, the first, with François Verrière who was ahead of outgoing MP Josy Poueyto by 551 votes. And in the second, where Monique Becker has 938 votes ahead of Jean-Paul Mattei, who chaired the democratic parliamentary group in the National Assembly. Will the department have far-right parliamentarians? The reserve of votes for Marine Le Pen’s candidates seems too weak. With 23% of the vote, the RN is the second political force in this first round, behind the left which has 26%, and ahead of the presidential majority which has 18%. Note, the first place of the Abertzale candidate (moderate nationalist left) Peio Dufau in the 6e constituency, long held by Michèle Alliot-Marie. In the 3eDavid Habib should keep his seat. Jean Lassalle, who arrived on the 3e on the podium in the Basco-Béarnaise constituency, declared that he would remain in the second round, just like all the candidates of the presidential majority.

7 In Charente, the RN in the lead in 2 of the 3 constituencies
