Gruesome discoveries last weekend: two bodies were found one after the other in Lake Constance. These are corpses that were lying at the bottom of the water and had risen to the surface, probably due to heavy rain.

According to Bernhard Aigner, police commander at Lake Hard, Austria, these discoveries are indeed probably linked to recent floods, reports SRF. He explains that below 50 meters depth, pressure holds bodies. But during storms or floods, waters of different temperatures can be churned up and bring corpses to the surface.

Could more bodies still be found? It is difficult to say, but the SRF points out that a total of 103 people are currently missing in the waters of the lake shared between Switzerland, Germany and Austria… And ten disappearances have been recorded in the last ten years.

The two macabre discoveries date back to Saturday. A boater found a body near the mouth of the Rhine, in German waters. It is a 79-year-old man from Chur, in the Grisons, who has been missing since last November, explains “Blick”.

In the evening, three kayakers then came across a lifeless body between Hard, Austria, and Lindau, Germany. The man has not yet been identified but the death certainly took place more than six months ago.

In both cases, there is no indication of criminal acts; they were most likely accidents.
