“No decision has been made. Morocco itself has not decided whether it wants to get the final or the opening match,” the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) told us.
Médias24 contacted Fouzi Lekjaa following rumors concerning “a supposed choice of Spain by FIFA” to host the 2030 World Cup final. For its part, the Spanish newspaper Brandknown to be close to Real Madrid, writes that “FIFA opts for the Santiago Bernabeu stadium”, and suggests that the choice of Spain for the final would be obvious.
According to Brand, it is even FIFA which is seeking to find an agreement with Real Madrid, owner of the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium. According to the newspaper’s insinuations, the international body should offer compensation to the European champions so that they give up their land 30 days before the start of the competition.
The author of the article claims that the two parties will easily reach an agreement, given the “excellent relations” between Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, and Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA.
In his statement to Médias24, Fouzi Lekjaa categorically denies this information. He reminds us of the next steps in the process:
– The ongoing development of Bid Bookwhich must be filed with FIFA on July 31, 2024 at the latest.
– The three countries will have in the meantime taken a joint decision taking into account the aspirations presented by each country. So far, neither Morocco nor Portugal have spoken out. “Morocco has not yet decided whether to organize the final or the opening match,” specifies our interlocutor. “He has sufficient arguments to obtain what he decides.”
– In the event of disagreement between the three countries, FIFA decides at a later stage.
– The candidacy of the three countries must be validated by the FIFA congress which will take place in December 2024.
