In brief:
  • Lausanne is relaunching the Bains des Rives in winter 2024.
  • They will be located in Bellerive with a more spacious facility.
  • Two saunas, a yurt and a large terrace are available.
  • The baths will open from December 11 to March 31 and require a reservation.

It was the success of winter 2022-2023 in Lausanne: in just three months, the Bains des Rives welcomed 3,200 people eager to sweat under their unique sauna yurt. The disappointment was at this same height the following year, when the instigators of the place threw in the towel. But it was to better return in 2024: from December 11, the Bains des Rives will return bigger and more beautiful to Bellerive. They will be there until March 31.

“Compared to the 2023 test project, this winter bathing season benefits from a more spacious location integrated into the Bellerive swimming pool, making it possible to improve the comfort of users and to increase the capacity of the saunas and of the terrace,” explains the Municipality of Lausanne in a press release.

Two saunas and a refreshment bar

The new facility includes a yurt dedicated to relaxation and refreshments, a large terrace, as well as two saunas that can accommodate around fifteen people and changing rooms. Infrastructures are designed to offer “a moment of relaxation and well-being” to visitors. Better: the Bains des Rives team now has a café-restaurant license and will therefore be able to offer drinks and food for consumption on site.

Another new feature: the Lausanne winter baths offer an extended time slot and daily access: Monday and Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Users will have access to the toilets at the Bellerive swimming pool, including toilets accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The infrastructures are entirely removable. “The reopening of the winter baths is part of the development and animation of the Lausanne banks in all seasons. They offer unique and accessible relaxation spaces, thus strengthening the quality of life of the population and the attractiveness of our city,” declares Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, Municipal Economy Officer.

A festive and public inauguration will take place on Saturday, December 14 during the day. More information under www.bainsdesrives.ch. Reservations are required. Adult entry, for two hours, with a cup of herbal tea: 21 fr. (entrance reduced to 18 francs). Payment on site. Minors aged 16 and over accompanied by an adult are welcome. Please note that within the sauna, everyone is free to wear their swimsuit or not, with respect and kindness.
