The list of 24 countries qualified for the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025, which will take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 in Morocco, is now known. An edition which promises to mix confirmations and surprises, with the presence of the giants of the continent but also new faces.
Unsurprisingly, the competition regulars responded. Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Senegal are among the major qualified nations. These teams, who regularly occupy the top of the bill, will approach this continental meeting with the ambition of winning the trophy. Senegal, for example, hopes to return to the coronation after its triumph in 2021. As for Ivory Coast, reigning champion after its victory in 2023 on its own soil, it intends to defend its “good”.
CAN 2025 will also welcome selections less accustomed to shining on the continental scene. The Comoros, who had already created a sensation in 2021 by reaching the round of 16 for the first time, are making their return. Benin and Zambia are also among those qualified and will want to take advantage of this platform to defy the odds.
Other nations, such as Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe, will seek to stand out in this edition. These teams, which do not start among the favorites, rely on cohesion and group dynamics to surprise and go far in the tournament. African champion on several occasions, Ghana will not be part of Morocco.
