Northvolt founder and CEO Peter Carlsson has left his position as chairman of the board of directors of subsidiary Northvolt Ett, owner of the company’s main factory in northern Sweden.

The information first reported by the Swedish daily Today’s Industry was confirmed by the Journal Tuesday morning. Mr Carlsson will be replaced by restructuring expert Paul O’Donnell, even as Northvolt considers the possibility of entering legal protection in the United States.

The Journal reported Monday that the next few days will be crucial for the battery manufacturer, which is currently facing major difficulties.
Since the beginning of September, the company has not met its weekly production targets for “deliverable” battery cells, as revealed by Reuters earlier this week.
