Famous soloist Vladimir Shklyarov died in St. Petersburg after falling from a balcony. The public’s favorite died in a “tragic way”, announced the famous Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. “It is a great loss not only for the theater troupe, but also for the entire art of ballet,” we read in a press release announcing the death of the 39-year-old.
Vladimir Shklyarov devoted his invaluable talent to the Mariinsky Ballet for 20 years. According to Russian media, he was also engaged with the Bavarian State Opera Ballet from 2016 to 2017 and subsequently performed in Munich.
Russian media, referring to the theater, reported that the dancer, known for his roles as a romantic prince, was scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday. He reportedly fell from the balcony of his fifth-floor apartment on Saturday, it was reported. According to information, his colleagues assumed it was an accident. The dancer reportedly suffered from back problems and took strong painkillers.
“He went to the balcony to get some fresh air and smoke, lost his balance (very narrow balcony) and fell,” former ballerina Irina Bartonowskaja wrote on social media. “Vladimir Shklyarov loved life, family, children and the public,” she wrote about the father. The dancer has also won many prestigious international ballet awards.
