After the Devils’ 1-0 defeat against Israel, Domenico Tedesco’s position is increasingly uncertain, even untenable. Soon, Vincent Mannaert will take stock of the situation, and it will not be all rosy.
Six defeats in the last ten matches, and only two victories. The Devils suffered their most humiliating setback in a good fifteen years against Israel this Sunday evening.
The voices raised are clear, and now unanimous: Domenico Tedesco must not be the coach who guides the Devils during the qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup.
Even if the circumstances were not favorable, due to numerous injuries, probably diplomatic for some, the German-Italian was never able to reverse the trend.
A negativity…typically Belgian?
“The negative atmosphere is not new,” Tedesco said after the meeting, according to The Latest News. “I was told that this negativity was something typically Belgian.”
“This campaign was difficult, we had to drink the chalice to the dregs. The chalice is now empty and things can only get better. We will be there in March, don’t forget that this group had never played together.”
Vincent Mannaert will soon take up his position at the Belgian Union. His first major task will be to make an assessment of Domenico Tedesco and define whether he should be the coach who takes the Devils towards 2026. “Do the Belgian Union and Mannaert also think that I will be there? You should not don’t ask me that, I’m not the right person for that” replied Tedesco, in the same tune as Koen Casteels to Gilles de Bilde.
