Unia Valais: Demonstration in Sion for salary increases

Some 1,000 people demonstrated on Saturday morning in Sion to demand salary increases, said the Unia Valais union. Municipal police could not be reached to confirm the number of participants.

1000 employees, according to the union, marched today in the streets of Sion to demand wage increases.

The demonstration, organized at the call of Unia, brought together workers from the entire canton and from all branches. According to the union, Valais employees have seen their purchasing power decline for 3 years, by not receiving the full increase.

Incomes in Valais are also the lowest in Switzerland even though the canton is going through a period of high, or even very high, economic conditions, particularly in construction and all trades in the building trades, estimates the organization.

For Unia, this first cantonal demonstration for wages gives a clear and strong signal to Valais employers who will have to take their demands into account during wage negotiations for 2025.
