Quebec police officers arrested a 23-year-old man during the night from Friday to Saturday after he rushed towards them, a knife in his hand.
Around 2:15 a.m., officers from the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) were carrying out a foot patrol on Saint-Joseph Street East, near bars in the Saint-Roch sector. They then noticed an individual approaching them very quickly, holding a blunt object in his hand which turned out to be a knife.
Believing that the man was threatening to them and dangerous to the public, the police drew their firearms. The suspect then hid his knife in one of his pockets. SPVQ agents attempted to control the individual, who was very aggressive.
He resisted arrest to such an extent that patrol officers had to call for reinforcements. Eventually, the police managed to handcuff the suspect, then dispersed the crowd that had gathered around them.
Fortunately, no one was injured during this intervention.
The 23-year-old man was arrested and detained; he must appear Saturday on charges of armed assault, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon for dangerous purposes and obstructing the work of peace officers.
