La Gantoise has published a long press release to provide more details on the situation of Noah Fadiga, who collapsed on the pitch during the La Gantoise-Standard de Liège match this Sunday. “Myocarditis can cause heart rhythm disturbances, which was indeed the case for Noah last Sunday. This condition is completely new to him and has nothing to do with his family history. A possible hereditary problem was already ruled out a year and a half ago. Myocarditis can occur in everyone, without distinction,” we can read.
The club stresses that Fadiga’s career is not in danger. He will receive the appropriate treatment and, as a precaution, he will have a defibrillator implanted. Pedro Brugada, specialist in cardiology and Fadiga’s attending physician, gave more details. “Noah was and continues to be regularly examined like all top athletes, but myocarditis can occur imperceptibly between two examinations. We observed scar tissue that was not previously present. The cause is often a viral infection, such as the flu or a cold, where the virus localizes to the heart muscle.
Brugada said the heart rhythm disturbance Fadiga suffered quickly resolved on its own, but was recorded using a chip. “The problem can be solved by implanting a defibrillator, we are taking every precaution to ensure Noah is protected in the future.”
This announcement reassured supporters. It appears that the player is in good hands and has every chance of making a full recovery, without his sporting career being compromised.
