The 37th of the 68 stages of the Olympic flame in France will pass through Neuville-sur-Saône this Friday, June 21, a music festival. In the city where the Sanofi vaccine production site is located, under construction: the detail is important since the pharmaceutical giant is a partner of the Olympics and the torch relays. How to attend, at what time and where in town? Progress explains everything to you.
Course
The Olympic flame will leave City Hall at 1:15 p.m. after a lighting ceremony, for a journey of 1.5 km. Ten Sanofi employees will take turns carrying it from City Hall to the end of Quai Armand-Barbès.
It will pass through Ombreval Park, where all the students from the different Neuville schools will be placed, then via Avenue Jean-Christophe, before taking Quai Armand-Barbès to the Sanofi production site, where it will will enter at 2 p.m. for “an event focused on our employees”, explained to Progress Julien Guyomard, coordinator of the pharmaceutical giant’s torch relay.
Circulation
You will probably have to come early, and preferably by bus or train, to access the route and have the chance to see the flame pass. “Choose public transport or active travel to attend this event,” insists the town hall.
The entire center of Neuville will be closed off to traffic from the morning, for the entire day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the parking lots neutralized. The bridge will still remain open. On the Saône, numerous sailing boats led by the Yacht Club du Rhône will accompany the flame throughout the route.
“Olympic Village”
As soon as the flame enters the Sanofi premises, at 2 p.m., a special event planned by the municipality will be accessible in Ombreval park and Arc garden: the town hall has organized an “Olympic village” with multiple activities and sports demonstrations (fencing, BMX, tennis, dance, handball, etc.) until 6:30 p.m., before a concert by the group On the road at 8:30 p.m. on the Ombreval park stage.
