Chis day aims to mobilize health professionals, civil society and all partners for the prevention and fight against diabetes and its complications, with an emphasis on well-being in care, in order to enable every person living with diabetes to lead a fulfilling life, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said in a statement.
Recalling that it screens one million high-risk people each year in all primary health care establishments, the ministry notes that this day also aims to promote the screening and early diagnosis of diabetes, in particular in high-risk populations, in order to guarantee rapid treatment, prevent complications and reduce premature mortality.
Furthermore, this event constitutes an opportunity to highlight the importance of therapeutic education, which allows people with diabetes to better manage their disease and gain autonomy, according to the same source.
Millions of people living with diabetes must demonstrate resilience, organization and responsibility to manage their health, which significantly impacts their physical and mental well-being.
According to the IDF, 36% of people living with diabetes feel distress related to their disease, 63% say that fear of complications affects their well-being, and 28% have difficulty maintaining a positive attitude about their condition. .
The continued increase in the incidence and prevalence of diabetes is worrying, particularly in Morocco. This disease affects more than 25,000 children, more than 2.7 million adults, 50% of whom are undiagnosed, and more than 2.2 million people with pre-diabetes.
The ministry also specified that it cares for more than 1,500,000 diabetics in primary health care establishments, where these patients benefit from care in accordance with a structured care pathway, the press release concludes.
