Lausanne is preparing to welcome a new theater called “Pavillon Naftule”. A place entirely dedicated to humor and improvisation. Located on Place Bellerive, the latter will have 450 places and a foyer with 200 places. It will open its doors on November 13. 130 performances are planned.

The “Pavillon Naftule” will take place on the edge of the lake in Lausanne Bellerive for approximately 3 months. With a surface area of 1,200 m², the Vaudois ephemeral theater was designed to offer optimal conditions for both the public and the artists.

The initiative to create this theater was born from the need to find a new space for the “Revue de Lausanne” and its 15,000 spectators, following the renovation of the Terreaux Cultural Center. Sébastien Corthésy, co-founder of Jokers Comedy, was able to count on the support of the State of Vaud to take on the challenge of this project.

From November 13, Place Bellerive will host the “Pavillon Naftule” and its 2 rooms. The large one has 450 seats and the 200-seat foyer, in a “cafe theater” layout, will be able to offer 130 performances.

Among the flagship shows, we will find a new exclusive show by Thomas Wiesel entitled: “Happy New Year?”. A show performed only at the “Pavillon”. The “Revue de Lausanne” will take its place in this same place, with the theme this year of the French-speaking press. “Pain Surprise”: Blaise Bersinger’s improvised solo will complete the program, as will Benjamin Décosterd’s first show, created especially for the new theater: “I’m doing well, but the world is going badly.” Finally Nathalie Devanthay will perform “Madame Helvetia” one last time at the “Pavillon Naftule”. The program will also include shows for young audiences, with magic and improvisation sessions every Wednesday afternoon.

The new theater is a tribute to Pierre Naftule, who died in 2022, having worked enormously for humor in French-speaking Switzerland. The Pavilion borrows its name but also its main principles: quality as the only programming criterion, the reception of the public and the comfort of the artists as priorities.
